Elf On A Shelf In the Music Room

A student asked in early December why there was not an Elf On The Shelf In the music room.
So I decided to give it a try.

Day 1 and 2: The elf arrived hanging out with our friend Leo with these notes:

Day 2 Hanging in the tree...

Days 3 and 4 He found out that the students voted and his name is Jimmy Jingles!
He discovered instruments around the classroom!  Jimmy Jingles also left us a song to sing.

Days 5 and 6:  Jimmy Jingles discovered the recorder!!!

We only had 6 school days after Jimmy joined us before break!  For the two literacy testing days he   hung out in the wreath near my desk watching me grade papers and do grades.
Jimmy came home with me for the break and we received his door to the North Pole from a friend.
He will be back to the music room next year!!!

Hallway wall for everyone!!

I am soooooo excited about the music staff in my hallway at school.  The caption is "Each of us a single note, together we create a masterpiece at DSE!"  Each note has a student's name and each color is a different class.  I am thinking I will leave it up the whole year as a teaching tool, but we will see how that goes.

Anchor charts

So... I'm not sure if anchor charts are for the students or serve as a visual reminder for me.  I love the active listening one I made and can refer to to correct or redirect students, it hangs near where I stand in the room.  The other chart reminds me what to have the kids look for when examining a new piece of music.

Centers

More Music Room Centers!!! My students love doing centers!!!! Cuptastic Each student in the group has one cup and the group must come up with a pattern to pass the cups. Pitch Reading Practice Picked up this little tool at the convention last week!   Student groups for centers are right now leveled by their pitch reading capabilities. At this center, right next to me, students can practice reading bass and treble clef. More pitch reading fun!!   Students use their recorder or the xylophone and play the pitches on the cards.   Fifth graders use these cards.  Fourth grade students use other cards. Music Madness A board game I made years ago to practice treble clef pitch reading.
