Creative Clutter and Music

We were wrapping up our unit on Peter and the Wolf, and telling stories with music.  The students loved having the opportunity for a little more free exploring in the music room!!  Peter and the Wolf marching game on the iPad.  Like memory except the students have to find the instrument and character match.   The culminating activity accompanying Peter and the Wolf is to add a character to the story, choose an instrument to represent it, explain why (hopefully in musical terms) and draw the character.  Many students came into class with their idea ready and really enjoyed the creativity of this project!  I’ll post some results separately.  Oh my goodness!  I have been reading and following Freirbands approach and ideas and am so excited to incorporate them into my classroom.  This center was titled no talking!  Students could free play anything with the stuffed animals but they could not use their speaking voices, only their singi...

More Music Room Centers!!! My students love doing centers!!!! Cuptastic Each student in the group has one cup and the group must come up with a pattern to pass the cups. Pitch Reading Practice Picked up this little tool at the convention last week!   Student groups for centers are right now leveled by their pitch reading capabilities. At this center, right next to me, students can practice reading bass and treble clef. More pitch reading fun!!   Students use their recorder or the xylophone and play the pitches on the cards.   Fifth graders use these cards.  Fourth grade students use other cards. Music Centers In classes of 25 to 32 students I decided I needed to have 6 centers per 40 minute class period Students get through 3 - 10 minute centers per class, getting through all of them in a week.  I introduced Guitar Hero as a center and the kids are loving it!!!
