First quarter

I cannot believe it is October!! There have been so many wonderful moments and a few trying ones, of course.  Getting my feet and brain back into the classroom has certainly been challenging. The 5th grade students are preparing their Halloween performance, choir has begun, fourth grade students had precorders in hand this week! I’m averaging 7,000 steps per day !  Stay tuned for specific posts.

Hallway wall for everyone!!

I am soooooo excited about the music staff in my hallway at school.  The caption is "Each of us a single note, together we create a masterpiece at DSE!"  Each note has a student's name and each color is a different class.  I am thinking I will leave it up the whole year as a teaching tool, but we will see how that goes.
Love this for 5th grade first day.  They struggled with the activity, then we discussed that they had been taught all these things throughout elementary school and that they will all be on the district music test in February.  This led us to a discussion about paying attention, practicing, and retaining what they learn while in the music room.

Anchor charts

So... I'm not sure if anchor charts are for the students or serve as a visual reminder for me.  I love the active listening one I made and can refer to to correct or redirect students, it hangs near where I stand in the room.  The other chart reminds me what to have the kids look for when examining a new piece of music.
